An allergy to...what?!!!

So, during our camping trip there was a TON of mosquito's.
That's kind of a given with how wet this year has been for Utah but what we didn't know was that those pesky blood suckers would cause so much harm to my baby boy.

Brekyn has always had bigger bumps than the rest of us when he's been bitten by a mosquito but I never thought anyone could be allergic to them.  Come to find out Brekyn is...
We had given him a bath Thursday night and in the morning he had woken up with a mosquito bite by his eye and a black circle like he'd been punched in the eye in the middle of the night.
We didn't know what to think of it until after breakfast it started to swell and get red and puffy.
I knew it was a mosquito bite because it matched the rest of the ones on his fore head, but what was going on by his eye.

Friday night it looked like this after giving him Benadryl and putting benadryl cream on it and tea tree oil on it.  I was trying to think of anything to help.  It looked so bad.  It hurt him just as bad as it hurt me.  It was for sure getting infected.
So, Saturday morning it was looking better but still not as good as it needed to be.
After breakfast we noticed that it was spreading up the side of his nose and over on his eyelid.
It was time to head to the doctors.
We packed up the boys and drove from Kamas to the Syracuse Tanner Clinic and got there with 2 minutes to spare for his appointment.
The doctor said Brekyn is for sure allergic to mosquito's and his eye had an infection in it. He said that we did the right thing by bringing him in and doing all the pre treatments the day before.
I guess the mosquito must have had some kind of bacteria on it when it bit him and it was just one of those instances that his eye was the lucky spot to be bit.  Besides his eye being swollen he had two bites on the back of his head that had swollen like grapes and his forehead was covered in scabs from previous bites.
I guess he's just got sweet blood and those dang bugs ate him for lunch and dinner.

This is a picture of the day after he went to the doctor.
Thanks goodness for antibiotics and allergy steroid medicine.
The doctor put him on a serious antibiotic and the same steroid allergy medicine that Justin uses for his peanut allergy.
I wish there was more that we could do than spray him good with repellent to protect him from mosquito's.
Maybe our camp outs will be in the backyard from now on.
Saturday after we got home we headed to my niece Chelsea's birthday party and my mom told me that my dad was allergic to mosquito's.  What?!!  Thanks Dad!
I can control Justin's peanut allergy pretty much but it will be a big pain trying to control mosquito's from biting Brekyn.
My poor little man.
Stay tuned for my next post...
Camping with Brekyn my bubble boy.
That should protect him, right?
I'm glad that he's back to normal now and it's almost cleared up completely.
Oh the adventures we have when we go camping!
